PAINT-IN AT NEWSTEAD PARK
Put it down in your diaries – Sunday 10 am November 23 at NEWSTEAD HOUSE, Newstead Park.

Local artists are invited to join me for 4 hours of painting in Newstead Park and on the verandas of Newstead House.
Bring your own easels, chairs, paints, brushes, palettes, canvas, hats and refreshments…and your creativity.

The Board of the recently reopened Newstead House has welcomed my proposal to have an artist “Paint in“ on Sunday, Nov 23.

You’ll also be invited to have a look at my latest exhibition of paintings of Newstead House and  Park in the very special Cellars of Newstead House.
SORRENTO 2026 WORKSHOP, VICTORIA IN SPRING

DATES  Wednesday Feb 25 to Sunday March 1.  (Painting days Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and hanging Of Paintings in Gallery on Sunday).
PROGRAM
Participants arrive on Wednesday morning , Feb 25. Participants assemble 10-11am  for my introductory painting demonstration and orientation. We paint in the afternoon and then break at 5pm to discuss our program and aspirations for the week ahead. We’ll do that over charcuterie and drinks at Manyung Gallery, 5.30pm.

On Sunday participants check out 10 am and go to Manyung Sorrento Gallery for hanging of paintings and a mini-exhibition . We’ll get a unique behind the scenes look at how commercial Galleries operate. It will provide a fascinating perspective.

ACTIVITY

This is what we’ll be doing:  Each day we will check the weather and determine if we’re painting inside or outside. There are a number of great painting subjects along the magnificent beach, the jetties, the local streets and the parks.

Even if the weather isn’t the best and we can’t paint in the open air (and obviously that will be our preference) we will be able to take photographs and work from those inside . I will do a demonstration painting each day and guide you individually through the painting process. Each day you’ll have a canvas supplied (complete with frame). All paints (student quality)  and brushes will also be supplied along with your own personal easel and back pack (which converts to a seat) for your individual use during the week.

You’ll need to bring an apron, spray bottle, water container for washing your brushes (an old ice cream container is perfect) and your enthusiasm – that’s all you’ll need. You’ll end up with at least four paintings (framed) which I guarantee you will be proud to hang.  On the last day (Sunday) we will take paintings to the Manyung Gallery and hang them. It will be a wonderful opportunity to gain a major insight into the workings of a gallery.

WHERE?
We’ll be staying in comfortable Airbnb accommodation in beautiful Sorrento. Each residence has kitchen, lounge and dining, as well as your own bedroom and bathroom (or there is an option of two participants sharing a bathroom but with their own separate bedroom) .
WHAT IS SUPPLIED
The price covers all of David’s personal tuition sourced from more than 50 years of painting and selling paintings worldwide.  In addition the price covers one canvas (including frame) for each of the 4 days of painting and all acrylic paints (student standard) plus brushes, easel and backpack which converts to a seat which you use on outdoor painting excursions.  These are used for the duration of the workshop. We will keep outdoor excursions to reasonable distances such as Sorrento Park, the beach and other close locations.

I will be running another Toowoomba Spring painting workshop at the end of September/early October in 2026 if you’re interested, please let us know. These are the details for the recent 2025 (workshop). I expect the details to be similar, but perhaps with a different venue.

FOCUS: no matter what your experience in Painting, this workshop is for people who love parks, streetscapes and still lives.

BACKGROUND: This is a substitute for the recently cancelled Toowoomba Winter Schools which have been  held by Toowoomba’s University of Southern Queensland. Mcgregor Winter Schools have now been permanently cancelled. (Summer Schools are still going to operate but for five days not seven)
